Fractional Chief Financial Officer (2 days per week)
Transformation & Turnaround Focus | Strategic Advisor to the CEO | Purpose-Driven Organisation

Our client is a respected, values-led organisation operating within the human services sector, with annual revenues of approximately $130 million.
At a pivotal point in its journey, the organisation is realigning its business model to ensure long-term sustainability. This includes a mandate for cost efficiencies while protecting service quality, culture, and mission.
We are seeking an experienced fractional Chief Financial Officer (0.4 FTE / 2 days per week) to partner directly with the CEO as a trusted strategic advisor during this critical period.
This is not a hands-on operational CFO role. The day-to-day finance function is led by a capable and established team. The mandate here is clear: provide strategic financial leadership, guide transformation, and support the CEO and Board through disciplined, well-governed change.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the CEO and working closely with the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) and Finance, Audit and Risk Committee, the CFO will:
  • Act as a strategic partner and sounding board to the CEO during a period of organisational reset
  • Lead financial strategy to support business model realignment and long-term sustainability
  • Drive a structured, disciplined cost optimisation program
  • Provide scenario modelling, financial risk analysis, and clear decision frameworks to inform executive and Board choices
  • Ensure financial governance, controls, and reporting to support transparency and confidence
  • Ensure statutory compliance, audit oversight, and robust risk management
  • Guide strategic capital allocation and investment decisions aligned with mission and service impact
You will oversee a well-established finance and commercial team of approximately 20 staff through senior leaders. The operational cadence is strong. Your focus will be forward-looking, strategic, and transformation-led rather than transactional.
About You
You are a seasoned CFO with proven experience leading organisations through transformation, restructuring, or turnaround environments.
You bring:
  • Demonstrated experience delivering meaningful cost realignment while protecting organisational capability
  • A track record of partnering closely with CEOs and Boards during complex or high-pressure periods
  • Strong commercial judgement, financial discipline, and risk acuity
  • The ability to balance financial rigour with empathy in a purpose-driven environment
  • Experience in complex, regulated, or government-funded settings
  • Calm, steady leadership that builds confidence across executive and Board stakeholders
You are comfortable stepping into ambiguity, providing clarity, and helping leadership teams make considered, sometimes difficult decisions. You understand that sustainable change requires both financial precision and cultural sensitivity.
Why This Role Matters
This appointment is central to the organisation’s next chapter.
The organisation is not seeking incremental improvement. It is seeking disciplined transformation. The successful CFO will help reset the financial foundations, strengthen resilience, and ensure the organisation can continue delivering meaningful impact for the communities it serves.
Key Details
  • 2 days per week, with flexibility to increase to 3 days during critical phases
  • In-person attendance required on Mondays for Executive Leadership Team meetings
  • Permanent fractional appointment
  • Competitive remuneration of $240,000 pro rata plus superannuation
