Open Opportunity

Board Chair

Location: Melbourne Salary: Voluntary Appointment

Prison Network Australia | 1 day per week | X5 Board Meetings per annum plus AGM

Prison Network Australia is seeking a values-driven and strategically capable Board Chair to lead the organisation through its next chapter of growth, impact, and organisational maturity.

For more than 75 years, Prison Network Australia has walked alongside women in and beyond prison, supporting restoration, dignity, hope, and long-term change. Grounded in Christian faith, the organisation provides practical and relational support that strengthens women, families, and communities while helping disrupt intergenerational cycles of incarceration and disadvantage.

Following seven successful years under the leadership of the outgoing Chair, this appointment represents an important opportunity to guide a highly respected organisation as it continues to expand its community-focused model, housing initiatives, social enterprise activities, and strategic direction.

The Opportunity
Working closely with the CEO and Board, the incoming Chair will provide thoughtful governance leadership, strategic oversight, and stakeholder stewardship during a period of increasing scale and complexity.

The Chair will support:
  1. Effective governance and Board leadership
  2. Strategic planning and organisational sustainability
  3. Strong stakeholder and community relationships
  4. Continued organisational growth and maturity
  5. Mission alignment and values-led decision-making

The organisation currently operates with annual revenues of approximately $2.2 million, supported by an equivalent of 13 FTE  (2026/2027) and approximately 135 volunteers. Recent housing funding initiatives and the development of a new strategic plan position Prison Network Australia strongly for continued impact and growth.

About You
You are an experienced Non-Executive Director, Deputy Chair, or Board Chair with the judgement, relational maturity, and strategic perspective to guide a purpose-led organisation.
You will bring:
  1. Demonstrated Board governance experience
  2. Strong stakeholder engagement capability
  3. A collaborative and steady leadership style
  4. Strategic thinking and sound decision-making
  5. Alignment with Christian faith and values
  6. A genuine commitment to supporting vulnerable women and communities

Experience within community services, housing, justice, corrections, philanthropy, government, or social impact environments will be highly regarded.

Equally important are your personal qualities. Prison Network Australia is seeking a leader who demonstrates humility, empathy, courage, discretion, and the ability to lead through influence and trust.

Appointment Details
  1. Voluntary Board Chair appointment
  2. Approximately one day per week commitment
  3. Five Board meetings annually plus AGM
  4. Meetings held on the third Thursday of every second month
