Role Overview


As the Product Manager, reporting to the CEO, you will play a pivotal role in managing the Downee range of gate automation products. You will leverage your electrical and mechanical expertise to drive product development, maintain and develop a product range that meets the industry requirements, and ensure their offerings meet client needs. You will have 1-2 direct reports in this role.


Main Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of the fence and gate industry.
  • Build and nurture strong relationships with technical supply partners for product development and refinement.
  • Maintain comprehensive technical knowledge of all products and their market applications.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and evolving market needs.
  • Identify gaps in the Downee product range and propose appropriate solutions in consultation with customers and the sales team.
  • Evaluate and assess new products for inclusion in the Downee range.
  • Manage underperforming products and implement exit strategies to ensure a streamlined product line.
  • Conduct internal and external product launches in collaboration with marketing and sales.
  • Attend domestic and international trade exhibitions to explore new opportunities.
  • Engage with industry groups such as Fencing Industry Australia and AWIA.
  • Report directly to the CEO and collaborate closely with the Executive Team.
  • Provide technical product information to Downee Tech Support and share knowledge across the team and larger clients.
  • Ensure the Downee website remains technically relevant, with updated product data sheets and manuals.
  • Leadership experience from within a similar role as you will be managing 1-2 direct reports.


Key Qualifications and Experience


  • Essential: electrical/mechanical trade background; electronics experience is desirable.
  • Current Electrical license
  • Minimum of 10 years in service, design, or installation of automatic gates, control-operated machinery, or similar equipment (security, plant automation).
  • Proficiency in using a multimeter and demonstrating effective electrical fault-finding techniques.
  • Familiarity with electric motors (low voltage and mains power, including VSDs), low voltage control systems, and the ability to read and produce electrical wiring diagrams.
  • Strong communication abilities across all levels of the organisation.
  • Competent with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Proficiency in Italian is highly desirable.
