Assistant Accountant

Location: Melbourne Salary: $80k - $110k

Our client is a privately owned group with an industrial focus that operates in the manufacturing and B2B distribution of metal-based components.

This newly created reports into the Chief Financial Officer and will provide assistance in ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of the reporting requirements for the group of companies.


This will include maintaining the integrity of the relevant ledgers, the reporting systems, and processes together with accurate and timely preparation of information to Government departments such as the ATO, ASIC and relevant State Departments



Key Responsibilities:
  • Operate the accounting package and ensure its accuracy in terms of transaction allocations at a profit center, cost center and account code level and GST codes.
  • Assist with the preparation of financial reports.
  • Preparation of timely and accurate month end reconciliations for all balance sheet accounts.
  • Maintain the fixed asset register and associated asset audits.
  • Prepare accurate and timely tax reconciliations for approval of the Chief Financial Officer.
  • Prepare all forms to ABS.
  • Assist with the preparation of the monthly BAS and yearly FBT return.
  • Provide ad-hoc reporting requests as required, to be versatile to the changing needs of the various teams and SLT.


This role will work closely with sales, finance, and supply chain teams to evaluate interpret data relating to but not limited to stock analysis, product variances etc, and give solid guidance through your findings to enable the business to make strategic decisions on demand vs supply.


This role is being offered as either a full time or part-time opportunity.


Part-time option:
  • 3-4 days per week on-site
  • You will be an experienced accountant with 5-10 years' experience and are looking for a role to utilise your extensive experience.
Full-time option:
  • 5 days per week on-site
  • You will hold 3-5 years' work experience after obtaining your accounting degree.
Please note that for both options, you will have gained your work experience from within a manufacturing MRP environment


Knowledge and experience required:
  • Bachelor’s degree in business / Accounting
  • CPA / CA
  • Minimum 2-3 years industry experience in an accounting role in a MRP manufacturing business
  • Strong financial analytical skills
  • Exposure to current taxation requirements of GST, FBT and Corporate Tax
