General Manager – People & Culture
Location: Sydney, NSW
Employment Type: Full-Time | Executive Leadership

A unique executive leadership opportunity has emerged for an experienced People & Culture professional to lead the people strategy of a large, complex organisation undergoing significant transformation. This is a critical role for a highly strategic, commercially focused, culture-led executive to drive people capability, strategic workforce planning, and leadership development at scale.

About the Role

This high-impact position is accountable for leading the People & Culture function across a diverse portfolio, including national distribution centres, customer-facing state teams, support office environments, and recently integrated businesses. With approximately 5,000 team members nationally, this role supports a frontline-first culture and enables leadership capability at every level.
Reporting to the Divisional CEO and with a dotted line into the Group Chief People Officer, and working as a key member of the executive leadership team, you will:
  • Develop and execute a forward-thinking people strategy aligned to organisational transformation and operational growth
  • Lead a team of senior HR Business Partners and specialist support functions including recruitment as well as access to top-tier functional specialists within the shared services team.
  • Drive leadership capability across all levels via structured programs and cultural alignment initiatives
  • Embed modernised people practices, experiences and systems to drive performance and culture
  • Champion a high-performance, values-led culture that supports operational excellence, safety, and inclusion
  • Provide strategic direction on complex HR challenges, including EBA negotiations, change management, and organisational design

Key Success Factors

To thrive in this role, you will bring:
  • Proven experience in a senior HR leadership position within a large, multi-site or matrixed organisation (retail, FMCG, or services sectors advantageous)
  • Strong strategic acumen, with the ability to shape and execute long-range workforce and cultural agendas
  • A genuine affinity for the frontline – with the ability to engage, uplift, and support the employee experience at all levels
  • Strength in transformation, systems implementation, and driving people-centred change at pace
  • Credibility to influence and partner with executive leaders across a highly engaged C-suite
  • A values-aligned, performance-driven approach to leadership and team development

Why This Role

This is not a traditional GM P&C role. It offers significant scope to influence the future of the organisation’s people model, with autonomy and permission to challenge and innovate. You’ll be backed by a collaborative HR community, a supportive and visionary executive team, and a strong operational foundation ready for evolution.

Remuneration

A competitive executive package is offered, including base, STI & LTI.
