Port of Melbourne Operations Pty Ltd as the Trustee for the Port of Melbourne Unit Trust (Port of Melbourne) is the manager of the Port of Melbourne.  Operating under a lease granted by the Victorian Government, Port of Melbourne’s assets under management include significant port land, wharves and channels servicing one of the nation’s key trade gateways. As Australia’s largest container and general cargo port with total trade value of over $100 billion, the Port of Melbourne infrastructure includes over 30 commercial berths; international container terminals managing over 7200 containers daily as well as a world class automotive terminal with the capacity for 1200 new motor vehicles per day. 
  
THE OPPORTUNITY
  
Reporting to the Executive General Manager Commercial, this exciting senior career opportunity will appeal to a talented and highly experienced Corporate Relations Manager with experience working in Government (State and Federal) as well as Corporate (infrastructure/transport).
  
This role is a key plank in ensuring that Port of Melbourne develops and maintains positive and open dialogue with the various stakeholders who are vital to the ongoing success of the business.  The successful candidate will be responsible for establishing a clear engagement strategy for all aspects of Port of Melbourne’s interfaces with stakeholders and fostering an external climate supportive of the organisation’s business development needs and trade facilitation objectives.  A key focus of the role will be to drive and manage relationships with State, Federal and Local Governments (and their agencies) and key industry associations to effectively position Port of Melbourne with the relevant government and industry groups. 
  
As a key member of a dynamic and high-performing Commercial Team, you will be responsible for leading the messaging of Port of Melbourne’s strategy, internally and externally as well as leading the brand.  Working closely with the CEO and broader Executive Leadership Team you will support the team with speech writing and presentation expertise as well as have management responsibility for media, social media and sustainability.  You will have input into monthly board reports as well as community relations management and assist the EGM Commercial with stakeholder engagement Plans.  There are three direct reports to this position – the Sustainability Coordinator, the Port Education Coordinator and the Stakeholder Adviser. 
  
THE CANDIDATE
  
The successful candidate will be a strong and confident leader with the ability to influence government and industry stakeholders on key strategic and policy issues.  You will have well-developed networks within government and industry, particularly in transport, infrastructure and funding.  You will bring a detailed understanding of policy drivers and decision making in ports and transport infrastructure as well as highly developed media, writing, communication and government liaison skills.  You will be able to demonstrate experience in managing a breadth of public affairs functions, excellent project management and analytical skills and the ability to think strategically with demonstrated experience in developing and implementing external and internal communications strategies and plans.  You will have the ability to build relationships externally and internally and have exceptional written and verbal communication skills.  Outstanding presentation and public speaking skills are critical elements of this role as are strong attention to detail, managing to KPI’s, report writing, and working in a matrix structure.   It is expected candidates will be degree qualified in Marketing, Public Relations or a similar discipline.
